History of Grama Panchayat

Although clear records regarding the ancient history of Anakkayam village are unavailable, the area was a significant center of struggle during the Malabar Rebellion of 1921. The local people waged fierce battles against British rule and the feudal landowning system. The killing of Inspector K.V. Chekkutty and the public well constructed at Pulliyilangadi in his memory are events of historical significance. Thanks to the prevailing Hindu-Muslim unity, the uprising did not devolve into communal conflict; the locals united to resist attempts at looting that occurred under the guise of the Khilafat movement. The Pantaloor Hills served as a hideout for freedom fighters. It is said that the British army fired cannons here following the Battle of Pookkottur. Kandathil Mammen Mappillai is known to have resided in the Pantaloor forest region and subsequently established a plantation there. Migration from southern Kerala brought about major changes in the agricultural and estate sectors. Administrative development began with the formation of the Panchayat Board in 1962, followed by the expansion of major roads and educational institutions. The Irumbuzhi GMUP School and the Kadambode GMLP School played pivotal roles in the educational sphere, while libraries in Perimbalam, Papinippara, and Pantaloor fostered cultural growth. Leaders such as K.V. Muhammed Ishaq made significant contributions to the political and literary fields. Abusabah Ahmed Moulavi, the founder of Farook College, and A.P. Moin Sahib played a pivotal role in educational and social progress.
